Sightseeing - Beaches

During your stay on the island of Astypalea, also known as the “Butterfly of the Aegean” because of its special shape, you should definitely visit the Castle of Astropalia, as the locals call it, which is unique and was built by the Venetian Querini family on the ancient Acropolis. You can also visit the Archaeological Museum in Pera Gialos and the world’s only Cemetery of the Infants under the Chora of the island.

The island’s trademark are the 8 windmills located in the central square of Chora, the ideal spot to capture your moments on the island.

Do not miss to visit some of the most famous and beautiful beaches of the island, Livadi, Ag. Konstantinos, Vatses, Kaminakia, Tzanaki, Ble Limanaki, Steno, Plakes, Psili Ammos.

Finally, you should not leave the island without visiting the islands of Koutsomytis and Kounoupa. Boats that organize excursions depart daily from the port of Pera Gialos and take you to dreamy spots and secluded beaches where the waters are reminiscent of the turquoise ones that someone can find at exotic destinations.
